Early Sellsword Twinblade Dex
MercenaryA speed-focused dex build that turns the Mercenary's starting Sellsword Twinblades into a boss-shredding chain attacker. Pontiff's Left Eye heals 30 HP after a string of successive hits and Chloranthy Ring keeps stamina topped up, so leaning into aggression pays for itself. A Sharp infusion unlocked with Farron Coal pushes the twinblades to A-rank Dexterity scaling for the rest of the early game.
Damage
Boss-shredding chain DPS once Sharp-infused for A-rank Dex scaling. +10% bonus stacks with Pontiff's Right Eye late game.
Survivability
Modest. 40 Vigor floor plus Pontiff's Left Eye refunds 30 HP per chain. No shield, no poise, purely positional defense.
Boss
Trivializes Iudex Gundyr, Vordt, and Curse-Rotted Greatwood. Carries cleanly through Pontiff Sulyvahn once Right Eye is online.

Mercenary
Starts with the Sellsword Twinblades equipped and the highest base Dexterity of any class at 16. The starting kit gives immediate access to the build's core weapon with no farming, and the dex-tilted stat spread means early levels go straight into damage scaling.

Paired curved swords with one of the fastest combo chains in the game. Two-handing wields one blade in each hand for a double-hit moveset that shreds boss health bars when stamina permits. The 99 base physical damage looks unimpressive on paper, but the Sharp infusion converts it into A-rank Dexterity scaling that comfortably outpaces every other early-game weapon.
Infusions & Prereqs
- ▸Sharp Infusion— Apply a Sharp Gem at Andre in Firelink Shrine after handing him Farron Coal. Drops Strength scaling but lifts Dexterity scaling to A at +10, the single biggest damage upgrade for this build.Wiki
- ▸Farron Coal— Hand to Andre at Firelink Shrine to unlock Heavy, Sharp, and Poison infusions. Found in Road of Sacrifices along the eastern shore of the marsh, at the end of a blocked passageway guarded by a Black Knight.Wiki

How to Obtain

Restores 30 HP once you land a weapon-specific quota of successive attacks. The Sellsword Twinblades clear that quota fast thanks to their paired moveset, so this ring effectively turns sustained pressure into passive healing and frees up Estus for emergencies.

Combat Strategy
- ▸Upgrade the Estus Flask with Estus Shards and Undead Bone Shards to maximize charge count and per-flask healing.
- ▸Equip Pontiff's Left Eye, Chloranthy Ring, and Life Ring for the standard three-ring loadout. Slot Pontiff's Right Eye in once Irithyll is unlocked.
- ▸Two-hand the Sellsword Twinblades before approaching the boss fog so you start in the paired moveset stance.
- ▸Lead with paired L1 attacks into the boss's hitbox, chaining 3 to 5 swings depending on stamina.
- ▸Dodge-roll out before stamina bottoms so you keep enough left to roll a follow-up attack.
- ▸Watch for the Pontiff's Left Eye heal proc at the end of each completed chain. Rinse and repeat.
- ▸Pontiff's Left Eye refunds 30 HP per finished attack chain, which softens the no-shield playstyle considerably.
- ▸Save Estus charges for emergencies. The ring covers most chip damage on its own.
- ▸If a fight goes sideways, disengage to a safe distance, sip an Estus, and re-engage rather than greeding for one more swing.
- ▸Iudex Gundyr: respect his stamina checks. In Phase 2 stay tucked under his hitbox to avoid the wide mutation swings.
- ▸Vordt of the Boreal Valley: hug his rear or under-leg in Phase 1. In Phase 2 dodge toward the charge, then punish the recovery window from behind.
- ▸Curse-Rotted Greatwood: target the glowing sacks on his body for amplified damage and fastest health bar drops.
- ▸Do not greed extra hits. The build has zero poise, so any incoming attack interrupts your animation and eats the heal proc.
- ▸Pre-buff stamina by waiting for the bar to fully recover between exchanges. Going in at 80 percent stamina cuts your chain length by a full attack.
- ▸Swap to Uchigatana for fights where parry timing beats sustained pressure (heavy humanoid bosses), then swap back for chain-friendly encounters.
