Ultimate Plasma Caster
Smashysnow's Plasma Caster build erases the Aligned sniper barrel's fire rate penalty with a manual animation cancel. Fire, tap aim, fire, and sustained damage roughly doubles. A full Strangler Heart set carrying the Reflective 4-star mod pairs with Bullet Shield to bounce the Guardian's own damage back and shatter its shield with almost no offensive input, then crouched sneak shots land 19,000 to 20,000 apiece. The Ghoul loadout leans on Glow-gated cards, while the Human version runs a low-health Nerd Rage setup that converts to full health by dropping a single card.
Damage
19,000 to 20,000 per aimed shot at double fire rate. 25,000 to 30,000 per V.A.T.S. crit at base speed
Survivability
453/393/500 resistances, up to 50% damage reflected, Bullet Shield deflect while firing
Boss
Solo-melts the Guardian. Reflective plus Bullet Shield breaks its shield with almost no offensive input

The build's entire damage output. It deals far more per shot than any other energy weapon at the cost of a slow fire rate, which the manual animation cancel removes. Furious climbs with every consecutive hit on the same target, making it the mandatory first star for boss fights, and Rapid makes the cancel trick land even faster.
Legendary Effects & Mods
- ▸Furious (1-star)— Mandatory for bosses. Adds +5% damage per Onslaught stack up to 9 stacks, so damage climbs the longer you stay on one target.Wiki
- ▸Rapid (2-star)— Mandatory. +25% weapon speed, which makes the shoot-aim-shoot cancel cycle even quicker.Wiki
- ▸Lightweight (3-star)— Flex. -90% weight on an 18 lb weapon. Purely an inventory convenience, so swap it freely.Wiki
- ▸Pin-Pointer's (4-star)— Mandatory for boss fights. +20% damage to the selected weak point. Dropped from Raid: Gleaming Depths.Wiki
- ▸Aligned Sniper Barrel— Mandatory. The highest raw damage barrel at +108 damage, and the reason the weapon fires slowly. The animation cancel makes that penalty irrelevant. Called the Sniper Barrel in the video.Wiki
- ▸Prime Capacitor— Primary receiver choice. +25% damage and +65% against Scorched, and converts the weapon to Ultracite ammo.Wiki
- ▸Calibrated Capacitor— Budget receiver. +100% critical damage and +10% hip-fire accuracy while still running regular plasma cartridges. Use this until you have an Ultracite supply.Wiki

How to Obtain

The defensive half of the build and the reason the Guardian fight becomes trivial. Reflective is a 4-star mod that returns 10% of damage taken back at the attacker per piece, reaching 50% across the five legendary pieces. Aristocrat's scales resistances with your cap total, Rushing feeds Action Points during kill streaks, and Active raises the AP pool outright.
Legendary Effects (per piece)
- ▸Aristocrat's (1-star)— Up to +20 Damage and Energy Resistance, scaling with how many caps you are carrying.Wiki
- ▸Rushing (2-star)— Restores Action Points over time while on a kill streak, growing stronger the longer the streak runs.Wiki
- ▸Active (3-star)— +20 maximum Action Points, which extends how long you can stay in V.A.T.S. while mobbing.Wiki
- ▸Reflective (4-star)— Mandatory for soloing the Guardian. Returns 10% of damage received back at the enemy, up to 50% with all five legendary pieces. This is what breaks the boss shield.Wiki

How to Obtain
Join a public Casual team even if you intend to run the raid completely solo. Teammates do not have to play with you. Being on a team activates Taking One for the Team for a 40% multiplicative damage increase whenever an enemy targets you, turns on Strange in Numbers for the mutation package, and the Casual team type adds Intelligence which feeds Science! and energy weapon damage.
Combat Strategy
- ▸Confirm all eight mutations are active and Class Freak is slotted before leaving camp.
- ▸Join a public Casual team. You can still enter the raid completely alone, and teammates never need to play with you.
- ▸Equip the Strangler Heart set and verify all five legendary pieces carry Reflective. The 50% return only exists at full stack.
- ▸Check that the Aligned sniper barrel and Prime capacitor are installed. This is the highest-damage configuration.
- ▸Fire one shot, tap the aim button, fire again, tap aim. Repeating this cancels the recoil animation and roughly doubles your rate of fire.
- ▸Stay on a single target so Furious builds Onslaught stacks and Guerrilla Master scales alongside it.
- ▸Let Tenderizer accumulate. Each hit makes the target take progressively more damage over a long fight.
- ▸Use V.A.T.S. instead for ordinary mobs. Headshots one-shot standard enemies and Grim Reaper's Sprint or Critical Savvy keeps Action Points flowing.
- ▸During the Guardian's shield phase, fire exactly one shot every 6 seconds. That keeps Bullet Shield refreshed without wasting ammo.
- ▸Draw the Guardian's aggression on purpose. Reflective returns up to 50% of its damage, Ricochet adds deflections, and Taking One for the Team amplifies everything by 40%. The shield breaks with almost no offensive input from you.
- ▸The instant the shield drops, crouch to enter sneak. This turns on Covert Operative and Follow Through together.
- ▸Manually aim the crouched burst rather than using V.A.T.S. The animation cancel is worth more than the higher per-crit number.
- ▸Never slot Bullet Storm. The Plasma Caster fires far too slowly to build or hold its stacks.
- ▸Skip Concentrated Fire on the Ghoul loadout. Mobs die in one shot so the accuracy ramp is wasted, and the weapon's 206 range already guarantees roughly 95% V.A.T.S. accuracy against bosses.
- ▸Drop Nerd Rage! from the Human loadout to convert the whole build into a durable full-health setup. Field Surgeon becomes genuinely useful at that point.
- ▸Rely on Wild West Hands or Quick Hands rather than reloading manually. Both skip the reload animation outright.
