Best Starter Bulwark
BulwarkThe same Death's Grasp Power Fist loop that carries the Assault, dropped onto a class that already has free damage on every parry and a banner that heals the squad. Follow-Up Shot hands you a gun strike on every finisher, Armour Reinforcement turns each of those gun strikes back into armour, and armour damage-caps melee hits entirely, so against Tyranids you reach a point where taking health damage is genuinely difficult. Intimidating Aura adds roughly 190 damage in a 5m radius on every perfect parry, which is over half a Tyranid Warrior's health bar for doing nothing but blocking correctly. The banner then covers the mistakes, restoring the entire team's contested health and reviving downed allies.
Damage
Higher than it looks. Roughly 190 area damage per perfect parry from Intimidating Aura, 200% light attack damage on Death's Grasp, plus banner damage over time
Survivability
Among the highest in the game. Constant armour regeneration, armour damage-capping melee hits, 25% ranged reduction, stagger immunity while armoured, and a squad-wide heal on demand
Boss
Reasonable. Power Fist heavies still hit hard and the banner adds sustained damage, but the build is built for holding a frontline rather than bursting bosses

Bulwark
The squad's frontline shield-bearer. The Bulwark carries a Combat Knife and Chapter Banner alongside a heavy melee weapon, can animation-cancel attack recovery by raising its shield, and projects a banner that restores the whole team's contested health. It trades ranged firepower for the ability to wade into melee, soak hits, and keep allies standing.

There is no easier melee weapon in the game. Parry, execute, and you get free gun strikes. In between, light attack spam is the entire rotation, and because the attacks are fast it is hard to get caught in an animation lock. Its Follow-Up Shot hero perk can even mark Zoanthropes and Neurothropes for gun strikes, which is free damage against targets a Plasma Pistol struggles with.
How to Obtain

Combat Strategy
- ▸Pick the class perk by faction: Armour Reinforcement against Tyranids, Steel Within against Chaos.
- ▸Choose between Intimidating Aura for damage and Conviction for tankiness. Aura is the higher-value pick if you can parry reliably.
- ▸Take the Plasma Pistol against Chaos for the stagger, or a Bolt Pistol against Tyranids for the headshot multiplier.
- ▸Light attack spam with Death's Grasp. The attacks are fast enough to avoid animation locks.
- ▸Parry incoming attacks. Each one staggers, triggers Intimidating Aura, and opens a gun strike.
- ▸Take the gun strike for an armour segment, then execute to trigger Follow-Up Shot and mark the next target.
- ▸Heavy attack for the 20m power wave when a Minoris group lines up.
- ▸Drop the banner into a contested area. Purity of Purpose wipes Minoris specials and chunks everything larger.
- ▸Follow-Up Shot can mark Zoanthropes and Neurothropes for gun strikes, which is free damage on targets the Plasma Pistol handles poorly.
- ▸Charged Plasma Pistol shots stagger instantly. Use them to break up Terminator volley fire.
- ▸Armour is your real health bar. Keep gun strikes flowing rather than backing off.
- ▸One charged Plasma Pistol shot returns most of your contested health.
- ▸Advanced Conditioning holds contested health on screen long enough to earn back.
- ▸Save the banner for when the squad needs it. Invigorating Icon can out-heal an entire operation's stim supply.
- ▸Armoured Advance means you are effectively immune to stagger while any armour remains, so you can commit to heavy attacks in the middle of a crowd.
- ▸Auxiliary Reload returns a percentage of Plasma Pistol ammo rather than a flat magazine, which makes it stronger there than on a Bolt Pistol.
- ▸Defensive Mastery replaces Armoured Advance if you would rather one-shot Majoris specials than hold permanent stagger immunity.
