Seek Guidance by Libralonix's menu-swap exploit for duplicating a single Soul or Humanity into hundreds of copies in a couple of minutes, on both console and PC. It works by tricking the inventory into overlaying the brightness settings menu mid-item-swap, which fires a duplicate Use Item instead of the Drop Item you set up.
Before you start
- A single Soul (of any type) or Humanity you're willing to spend, since the glitch instantly consumes it and every duplicate
- As many arrows as you want duplicate copies, since arrow count sets your maximum duplicates per run
Setup
Buy 999 Standard Arrows from the Undead Merchant
Head to the Undead Male Merchant, the earliest merchant in the game, and buy as many Standard Arrows as you can. They run 10 souls each and are the cheapest ammunition available to you that early. The number of arrows you buy caps how many duplicates you can produce in a single run, so buy the full 999 if you can afford it.
Move the Item You Want to Duplicate to the Second Inventory Slot
Open your inventory and use Change Order to move the Soul or Humanity you want to duplicate into the second slot, directly beneath your Estus Flask. Select the item, choose Change Order, select it again, then choose the second slot.
Running the Duplication Glitch
Set Your Arrows to Drop 999, Then Cancel
Navigate to the arrows you bought, select Drop Item, raise the quantity all the way to 999, then press Cancel instead of confirming the drop. This primes the glitch without actually losing the arrows.
Open the System Menu and Highlight Brightness
Open the system menu, the left shoulder button opens it directly on controller, then press Down to highlight the Brightness setting. Don't confirm it yet.
Press Use Item, Then Immediately the Right Shoulder Button
With Brightness highlighted, press your Use Item button, Square on PlayStation, X on Xbox, E on PC, then immediately follow it with the right shoulder button. Done correctly, the brightness configuration screen appears overlaid directly on top of your inventory screen. If nothing overlays, you likely mistimed the two presses, back out and retry from setting the arrow drop to 999.
Patch note:This glitch is a menu-input exploit rather than a content bug, so it's unlikely to ever get hotfixed, but if it stops triggering on your version, double check you're pressing Use Item and not the button matching Drop Item, since the two are easy to mix up under the overlay.
Press Down, Select OK, Then Confirm It Says Use Item
Press down once in the overlaid menu and select OK. On console, scroll down to Quick Game and select it. On PC, your controller can't scroll down through this particular menu, so use your mouse to hover Quick Game, then confirm the selection with your controller. Before finishing, check the prompt reads Use Item, not Drop Item. If it says Drop Item, the glitch didn't take and you need to restart from setting your arrows to drop 999.
Max Out the Quantity and Confirm
Set the amount to the maximum available and press OK. You've now duplicated your single Soul or Humanity into as many copies as you had arrows for, and consumed all of them instantly. Keep spare Souls in your Bottomless Box so you only ever risk spending the one copy per glitch run.
