Drink From Your Gourd Before Collecting Wandering Spirits

Wandering Spirits restore a healing charge to your gourd when collected after the wise master's enchantment. If your gourd is already full, drink from it first so the spirit's healing isn't wasted. You can also save spirits to collect after clearing nearby enemies, using the heal to recover without needing to rest at a shrine.

2

Search Boss Arenas Thoroughly After Each Fight

After every boss fight there's almost always at least one special item or interactive object hidden around the arena. Some give resources, but others trigger secrets or unlock events later in the game. Take a full lap around every arena before moving on.

3

Ring Three Bells on Black Wind Mountain for a Secret Boss

Three giant bells are located near bosses on Black Wind Mountain. Ringing all three unlocks a special shrine you can travel to for a secret boss fight. Defeating secret bosses at these shrines rewards unique vessel items with special abilities, so track down all three bells before leaving the region.

4

Equip the Deluxe Edition Windchime as Soon as You Get It

If you own the deluxe edition, the Windchime curio becomes available after reaching the second shrine. The game doesn't notify you about it, but it boosts movement speed and you won't have any competing curios at that point anyway. Check your curios early so you don't carry it unequipped for hours.

1

Retrieve Missed Boss Spirits at the Shrine's Cultivate Tab

If you defeated a boss before receiving the gourd enchantment, you couldn't collect its spirit at the time. Those spirits are saved and waiting under the Cultivate Spirits tab at any shrine. Boss spirits grant a special ability that lets you briefly transform into that boss and use one of their attacks, plus a passive bonus. The Wandering White spirit, for example, adds 20 defense.

2

Manually Activate Relics After Each Regional Boss

Relics are rewarded after defeating regional bosses and offer a choice of special passive abilities. The game doesn't clearly prompt you to act on them, so it's easy to miss. After each regional boss, open the menu and navigate to Relics to choose which ability to activate.

3

Focus Your First 20-30 Sparks on the Smash Stance

Stances become much stronger once you invest Sparks into their trees, so spreading points across all three early weakens all of them. Focus on Smash first and grab Force Unbound and Quick Hand to charge faster. In the Smash tree, pick up Resolute Counter Flow, Winding Wind, and Skyfall Strike early. Also put a few Sparks in the top row of each Foundation tree, and unlock the Focused Attack series on the far left of the Stances page as it becomes available, since it grants extra Focus charges as you invest points elsewhere on that page.

Backtrack to Shops After Completing Each Region

The game doesn't tell you this, but completing a region adds new items to that region's shop. The Back Scratcher curio, which boosts max stamina, is one example that only appears after you've moved on. Check shop inventories whenever you return to an older area rather than assuming you've seen everything available.

1

Check Shrines Regularly to Craft New Armor Sets

New craftable armor sets appear at shrines as you progress, but the game doesn't alert you when one becomes available. Pilgrim's Armor unlocks at the Guan Temple Shrine just before a major boss, for example. Armor sets generally improve as you advance and have perk bonuses tied to how many pieces you equip, so checking the shrine crafting menu regularly is worth the habit.

3 tipsSettings
1

Toggle Auto-Targeting On If Attacks Keep Missing

Auto-targeting is off by default, which means your attacks need to be directed at enemies using the movement stick. Turning it on makes attacks automatically connect when you're close enough, without needing to aim. If your hits seem to pass through enemies often, try enabling this setting.

2

Enable the Descriptive Information Setting

With this setting on, you can view item descriptions by holding the button down longer instead of opening the menu. It's a small quality-of-life change that keeps you in the game and removes the need to navigate menus just to check what something does.

3

Hide Headgear Without Losing Its Stats

A dedicated headgear visibility toggle lets you make your equipped helmet invisible without unequipping it. You keep all the stats and set bonuses while playing with the appearance you prefer. Worth enabling if the headgear disrupts your character's look.

1

Use Jump Attacks to Deal Damage and Create Distance

While moving toward an enemy, jump and press the light attack button to bounce off them. The move deals damage, builds Focus, and immediately pops you back to a safe distance. It's fast enough to repeat as long as you stay in range and have stamina, making it a reliable option when an enemy isn't giving you a clear window for a normal combo.

2

Follow Jump Attacks With a Heavy Hit for Extra Damage

Immediately after the jump light attack, while still in the air, press the heavy attack button to extend it into a stronger hit. This is one of the few situations where using a heavy attack without Focus charges built up is genuinely worth doing, since the jump setup makes it safe to land.

3

Stop Light Combos at Three or Four Hits

The full light attack combo is five hits, with the strongest landing at the end. Enemies and bosses typically retaliate around the third or fourth move, making it risky to push for the fifth. Stopping at three or four gives the best balance of damage output, Focus buildup, and staying safe. Only go for the fifth hit when you're confident the enemy won't interrupt.

4

Use Heavy Attack Only When You Have Focus Charges

Tapping the heavy attack without any Focus charges deals very little damage and isn't worth the stamina. Think of it as a Focus spender, not a standard attack. Enemies also frequently back away when you commit to a heavy, so timing it for when a charge is ready and the enemy is in range matters a lot.

5

Build Focus Through Hits Rather Than Holding the Button

Holding the heavy attack button charges Focus manually, but you must release it immediately and lose all charges if you dodge or get hit. Focus gained by landing light attacks is sticky and carries over between hits, making it the more reliable method. Use the hold-to-charge only as a last resort when you need an immediate release.

6

Think in Sets of Three When Dodging

Your dodge operates in a chain of three, with a short delay before the chain resets after the third. Plan movement around full sets of three dodges rather than dodging reactively. With depleted stamina you only get the first dodge animation in the chain, which covers the least distance, so keeping stamina available for the full chain is important. Perfect dodges cost no stamina and have invincibility frames, making them worth practicing.
