Upgrade Focus to Level Two and Three
Focus slows time and recharges your spirit gauge, giving you a safer window to heal and observe enemy patterns. Level 2 adds a blast-back that pushes nearby enemies away, and level 3 auto-tracks incoming attacks so you can counter them with L1. Build a habit of using it constantly in combat.
Chain Turning Slash for AoE and I-Frames
Turning Slash deals solid area damage and has generous invincibility frames, letting you pass through enemy attacks cleanly. The level 2 upgrade makes it faster to chain after other attacks. It costs spirit, so use Focus frequently to keep the gauge topped up.
Combo Stab with Blinding Flash Finisher
Stab inflicts bleed for damage over time, which is especially useful against early bosses. Use Blinding Flash to stun and interrupt the enemy, then follow up immediately with Blinding Flash Finisher for easy free damage while they are blinded.
Unlock Keen Senses Level Three Early
Keen Senses level 3 upgrades your dodge into a near-perfect dodge window, making it much easier to avoid damage at the last moment. It also unlocks Counter, which lets you interrupt an enemy attack if you time your own action right before being hit.
Use the Hidden Shield Bash Combo
Hold L1 to block, then hold R2 while keeping L1 held. Cliff shield bashes, continues charging forward, and finishes with a three-hit heavy combo. Keep both buttons held the entire time without releasing. This is one of the safest ways to deal with bleed bandits and other dense groups.
Hold Attack Buttons for Full Combos
Holding the light or heavy attack button lets Cliff execute the full combo automatically, and slightly faster than tapping. Damage scales up through the combo, so most basic enemies die in two or three hits if you commit to the chain.
Stay Aggressive to Chain Kill Interrupts
Killing an enemy briefly dazes and often knocks down nearby enemies. Rather than waiting for openings, press the attack and chase the next target immediately. Chaining kills keeps interrupting the group and lets you turn the tide of a large fight quickly.

Cook Clear Soup and Grilled Bird Meat
Buy water, barley, oats, and all meats from the Hernand grocer and butcher. Cook the bird meat into soup first since grilled bird meat stacks separately from regular grilled meat and wastes inventory space. Then cook the remaining meats into basic grilled meat. Stock dozens of each before any boss fight.

Buy Small Bags from Every Merchant
Small bags are one-time purchases that permanently add an inventory slot. Inventory is extremely limited and there is no other storage system yet, so buy every small bag you find at merchants across Pywell.
Group Items to Organize Your Inventory
Select any item and press L3 (or T on keyboard) to stack similar items into a category group. This does not free up slots, but keeps your inventory readable when it starts to fill up.
Unseal Abyss Artifacts to Unlock Skills
Sealed artifacts must be unsealed by completing their associated challenge before you can spend them on skills. Many are found for free at road-side altars and near puzzles. When a sealed artifact flashes in your inventory, press the use action to extract the abyss core. It will not convert automatically.
Invest in Health, Stamina, and Spirit Nodes
Put two to three points into the health node and three to four into stamina early. More stamina means more attacks and more hits you can absorb while blocking before getting knocked down. Get the spirit node upgraded two to three times as well so you have a bigger gauge for Turning Slash and Force Palm.
Unlock Force Current for Quality of Life
Force Current lets you blast apart minerals you cannot mine with a pickaxe, push blocks for puzzles, and knock down trees without an axe. It is a lower priority than health, stamina, and spirit, but well worth getting shortly after.
Mainline the Story Until Chapter 5
Many side activities and exploration mechanics are locked behind story progress. Push to at least chapter 5 before spending significant time on side content. Collect abyss artifacts along the way for skill unlocks, but do not get sidetracked too early or you will run out of things to do.
Buy Kanta Plate Armor from the Hernand Smith
Pick up the chest piece and boots from the Hernand blacksmith early. Skip the gloves since an early boss drops better ones, and skip plate helms since they block you from wearing masks, earrings, and glasses at the same time.
Stop Upgrading Gear Past Level Four
Refining gear to level four only costs iron and copper. Level five requires abyss artifacts, which you need for skill unlocks. Keep gear at level four and spend your artifacts on skills instead.
Stop Synthesizing Abyss Cores at Tier Three
Tier three cores are strong and permanent. Tier four cores gain a durability mechanic that makes them temporary, so they are not worth the investment. Tier three is the practical ceiling for slotted cores.
Get the Staglord Helm for Turning Slash
The Leather Helm of the Fallen Kingdom (the Staglord helm) comes with a core that boosts Turning Slash damage by 35%. It is one of the best early items in the game if you are using Turning Slash regularly, which you should be.

Use Your Lantern to Reveal Memories
When your lantern flashes blue, a nearby memory is waiting. Open the gear wheel, equip the lantern, and hold L1 to shine it until the learning bar fills. Then use the shortcut on the memory icon to automatically equip the Visione, view the memory, and put it away without fumbling through menus.
Fast Travel by Diving from the Abyss
Until you unlock a fast travel point near your camp, the quickest route back is through the abyss. Mark the camp on your map, switch to the abyss layer, teleport to the nearest nexus, then glide straight down toward the marker and pop your wings just before landing.
Use Escape Option When Falling in the Abyss
If you fall accidentally, use Axiom Force to slow your descent immediately, then open the menu, go to Others, and choose Escape. This teleports you straight back up to the abyss so you do not have to fall all the way down and climb back up. The same escape option works if you get stuck in terrain.

Tame Pets to Automate Looting
Pet any dog or cat up to five times per in-game day to build trust. Dogs can also be given raw meat three times per day for even faster progress. There is a dog and a cat in the Hernand town square, so start petting them early. Once tamed, summon your pet from the menu and it will help collect loot after fights.
Rob the Hernand Bank for Early Silver
Equip a mask to avoid raising the alarm, then use a generic key on the left door inside the bank's front entrance. Take everything in the loot room and sell it for around 75 silver. If guards spot you at any point, sprint outside the red boundary and break line of sight.
