Read Key Descriptions Before Searching for Locks
When you pick up a key and don't know what it opens, check its description in your inventory rather than wandering the area hoping to stumble on the lock. The description gives a specific location, which narrows your search significantly.
Match Key Descriptions to Safe Map Markers
Finding a safe automatically adds it to your map even if you don't have the key yet. When you find a key later, compare its inventory description to the marked locations on your map to identify which safe it belongs to.
Keep Zombies Alive When Searching for Keys
Some keys only drop from specific zombies in an area. If you are hunting for a key, avoid clearing every zombie nearby because the one carrying it may be the last one standing.
Look for Alternative Entrances Past Locked Areas
Locked areas occasionally have a second way in that bypasses the key entirely. These alternatives sometimes trigger an alarm or a small consequence, but are often faster than continuing to search for the key.
Identify Quest-Locked Areas to Avoid Wasted Time
Some areas that look accessible are actually gated behind quest progress, not a physical key. If you have searched thoroughly and found nothing, check whether the area is tied to a main or side quest you haven't reached yet.
Spam the Pickup Button to Collect Nearby Loot
You do not need to look directly at items to pick them up. Standing close to a shelf or loot pile and pressing the pickup button repeatedly will collect everything in range even if it is off to the side of your screen.
Re-Enable Your Flashlight After Bright Areas
The flashlight turns itself off automatically when you enter a well-lit area and does not switch back on when you move into the dark. Manually re-enable it whenever you leave a bright space or you will be navigating blind.

Stock Up on Fuses Every Time You Visit a Vendor
Fuses are sold by vendors rather than found in the world, and you can only carry three at a time. Refill to the maximum every vendor visit so you always have one available when you come across a fuse box door while exploring.
Continuously Sell Excess Crafting Materials for Cash
Crafting materials like fabric, metal parts, and zombie parts have a carry cap. Selling the overflow keeps your inventory clear and generates steady income, letting you pick up more of the same resources in the world without hitting the limit.
Sell Gray Items When You Have Over 25 of Them
Gray items sell for around 30 to 50 dollars each. Keeping 25 of any gray material is enough for most crafting needs, so anything above that is pure sellable surplus. Clearing these regularly in the early game adds up to thousands of dollars.
Buy Blue Crafting Materials From Vendors Early
Synthetic fibers, alloys, and other blue-tier crafting materials are scarce early on but become plentiful later. Vendors sell them directly, so purchase what you can afford in the early game rather than waiting to find them in the world.
Sell Weapons Instead of Scrapping Them for Wealth
Scrapping weapons early on is fine when you need resources, but once your loadout is stable, selling extras earns far more. Weapons found from random kills in the late game can be worth thousands of dollars each, and upgrade costs scale up, so building a cash reserve matters.
Strip Upgrades at the Workbench Before Selling Weapons
Before selling a weapon with upgrades attached, return to the workbench and remove any mods you want to keep. You get the resources back from removed upgrades while still earning the full sale price for the stripped weapon.

Workbenches spawn additional blueprints as you progress through the game, so locations you have already visited may have new ones available. Check every workbench again when you return to a previous area.
Buy Every Blueprint From Every Vendor You Find
Vendors stock different blueprints from one another and can restock with new ones over time. Buying out a vendor's blueprint selection immediately prevents you from missing options if their inventory changes.
Track Blueprint Parts at the Workbench While Exploring
Workbenches let you track crafting materials for blueprints you cannot yet afford. The required resources then appear as a live counter on screen while you explore. Avoid tracking too many at once since removing a tracked item requires returning to the workbench.

Complete the Beverly Hills Quest for XP and Blueprints
A side quest available in Beverly Hills is straightforward to complete and rewards a significant chunk of XP along with access to a new vendor who carries exclusive blueprints. Start it as soon as it becomes available even if you are focused on the main quest.
Check Your Lost and Found Locker Every Few Missions
Weapons you could not carry or forgot to pick up are stored in your Lost and Found locker. Check it every couple of missions, as it may contain items worth selling, scrapping, or adding to your loadout.
Save Fuse Box Activities Until You Are Higher Level
Fuse boxes and other high-tier loot activities reward items scaled to your current level. Using them early means weaker rewards. Space them out across your playthrough so you benefit from them when your level is high enough to get the best possible gear.
Use Dodge Counter Kills to Double Your XP Per Kill
A standard kill earns around 15 to 20 XP, but finishing a zombie with a dodge counter combo pushes that to roughly 35 XP. Practicing the dodge counter consistently is one of the easiest ways to accelerate leveling.
Vary Your Playstyle to Unlock Zombie Challenge Bonuses
Zombie challenges in the challenges menu are account-wide and reward permanent stat boosts across all characters. Switching between weapon types, elemental damage, and kill methods unlocks challenges faster and keeps progression moving on multiple tracks at once.
Test Characters on Separate Saves Before Committing
Each playable character has a distinct voice and personality that you will hear throughout the entire campaign. Create short test saves for a couple of characters before committing to one so you choose someone whose style you actually enjoy.
Focus on Innate Skills Rather Than the Agility Attribute
The Agility attribute on the character select screen only affects walk speed, not sprint speed, making it nearly irrelevant in normal play. Prioritize the innate skills listed for each character instead, as those have a more meaningful impact on how your build performs.

Hold Pickup to Instantly Equip Weapons From the Floor
When a weapon drops during combat, holding the pickup button equips it directly into your hand instead of sending it to your inventory. This lets you switch to a better weapon mid-fight without pausing to navigate menus.
Press Reload to Cancel a Charged Heavy Attack
If you charge up a heavy attack and need to abort it, pressing the reload button cancels the swing. On PS5 that is the square button. This saves you from committing to a slow attack at the wrong moment.
End Fury Early to Save Meter for Sooner Reuse
Pressing the Fury activation buttons again while Fury is active ends it early and preserves whatever meter remains. This is more efficient than letting Fury run out completely when the situation no longer calls for it.
Drink Energy Drinks to Charge Your Fury Meter
Energy drinks found throughout the world directly fill your Fury meter. Save them for situations where you want to activate Fury quickly rather than waiting for it to charge through combat.
Use Med Packs to Instantly Clear Status Effects
Activating a med pack removes all active status effects immediately in addition to restoring health. If you are on fire or suffering from another ongoing effect, using a med pack right away stops the damage before it burns through your health pool.
Avoid Falls as Med Packs Cannot Prevent Fall Deaths
Med packs do not protect against fall damage, and falling from a significant height will kill you outright. Be cautious near ledges and elevated areas, especially in unfamiliar locations.
Never Pick Up a Sparking Battery After Throwing It
Throwing a battery at a zombie and then picking it up while it is still sparking kills you instantly. Let the sparks fully dissipate before retrieving it, or leave it and find a fresh one.
Check for Environmental Hazards During Boss Fights
Most boss arenas contain interactive hazards such as flamethrowers or electrical elements that can deal significant damage. Scanning the environment during a difficult fight may reveal something you can trigger to turn the odds in your favor.
Check the Zompedia for Enemy Weaknesses and Tips
The Zompedia is found in the collectibles menu and tracks your kill count for each enemy type. As that count rises, additional tips unlock showing weaknesses and efficient strategies. Check it whenever you are struggling with a specific enemy.
Exploit Zombie Type-Specific Weaknesses in Combat
Loud noises trigger Mutator transformations early, and maiming a Crusher's arms before killing it stops its overhead attacks and yields bonus parts. Runners are weak to sharp and bleed damage, Screamers take extra damage from blunt weapons, and spiky zombies are vulnerable to explosive damage.
Check Weapon Details for Hidden Damage Profiles
Every weapon has a damage type and a hidden damage profile visible on its details page. Damage profiles change how the weapon behaves, such as making all heavy attacks critical hits. Knowing this lets you pair the right perks with the right weapon for significantly more damage.
