Take the Free Level 20 Boost and Choose Shotgunner
When leaving Vault 76 for the first time, you can opt into a free boost to level 20 that includes starting gear and skips to the main part of the story. If you take it, the Shotgunner class is the strongest starting option: the build hits hard and the hipfire spread makes it easy to tag multiple enemies at public events for shared experience.
Wait Until Level 50 to Complete Unique Weapon Quests
Quest rewards scale to your character level at the moment you complete them, and most unique weapons cannot be re-earned. Finishing a quest at level one means receiving a nerfed version of the weapon you'll have no use for at endgame. Hitting level 50 first guarantees you get the strongest possible version of any one-time reward.
Farm WestTech Super Mutants for Fast Early XP
The WestTech Research Center is packed with Super Mutants that award generous experience per kill and frequently drop ammo, food, and gear to keep you supplied. Park here between public events and alternate between clearing the area and fast traveling to events when they pop up on the map notification.

Tag Enemies at Events to Share Kill Experience
You don't need to land the killing blow to receive experience credit. Landing at least one hit on an enemy tags it, and you earn XP when anyone finishes it off. At crowded events, join a public team for an additional experience boost, and use shotguns or area attacks to tag as many enemies as possible before other players clean them up.
Replay Daily Ops to Farm Ammo and Materials
A new daily op becomes available each day and awards its best loot when completed in under eight minutes. After hitting the daily reward cap, the mission stays open and enemies inside continue to drop significant ammo and crafting materials. Running it repeatedly is one of the most efficient ways to restock supplies.

Unlock White Springs Resort as Your Free Early Base
The White Springs Resort has a full mall on its lower floor with vendors selling weapons, armor, ammo, and meds, plus a stash box, perk punch card station, and most crafting benches at a shop called Artisan's Corner. You can treat it as a cost-free base for scrapping junk, managing builds, and storing items before you invest resources into building your own camp.
Visit Fisherman's Rest to Start the Fishing Quest Line
Fishing is one of the newer features in Fallout 76 and can be done from any body of water across the map. Catching fish and converting them into fish bits to deliver to Linda Lee at Fisherman's Rest earns legendary rewards. The associated quest line adds a steady side activity to work on while you're out doing events and exploring.

Exchange Unwanted Legendaries for Script at the Rusty Pick
The Rusty Pick contains a legendary exchange machine that converts unneeded legendary items into legendary script. That script can then be spent at the nearby vendor on loot boxes that award a random legendary in whichever category you choose: ranged, melee, armor, or power armor. If the result still isn't useful, exchange it again and repeat.

Don't Stress Over Your Early Camp Appearance
Early on you won't have many building plans unlocked and some crafting stations may be missing entirely. Treat your camp as a long-term project rather than something to perfect at the start. Buy building plans from White Springs Mall vendors with caps as you earn them, and rare plans occasionally drop from public events.
Build a Vendor Station to Earn Caps Passively
The vendor station adds your camp to the map as a shop that other players can visit and purchase from while you're offline. Listing surplus gear, ammo, and junk consistently generates caps without any active effort. Other players' vendor camps work the same way, so visiting them is also the best source for rare building plans.

Claim Workshops to Passively Harvest Crafting Materials
Workshops are scattered across the map and each one produces specific materials. Clear the enemies guarding one, check its resource list on the map, then spend caps to claim it and build extractors. The workshop will accumulate materials over time that you can collect on future visits. Be ready to defend it when you get attacked notifications.
Scrap Basic Weapons to Learn Their Mods
You learn weapon mods by scrapping that specific weapon type, not by unlocking them through a skill tree. Pick up weapons dropped by enemies rather than leaving them on the ground, then scrap them at a workbench to learn their modifications. Scrapping a weapon that already has a mod installed gives you a higher chance of learning that specific mod.
