Focus on the Main Story for the First 5-10 Hours
The game restricts open-world access until Chapter 1 ends, marked by the seasonal change cutscene. Pushing through the main story first unlocks your broom, the Room of Requirement, and the majority of spells you'll need to properly explore the castle and Highlands. Side content becomes far more rewarding once those tools are in hand.
Claim Challenge Rewards Manually From the Menu
Completed challenges don't automatically grant their rewards. You have to open the Challenges tab and manually claim each one. Check it regularly so you aren't missing out on gear pieces and other bonuses that are sitting uncollected.
Check Owl Post Frequently for Hidden Quest Triggers
Some Owl Post messages arrive quietly without an audio cue. If you feel stuck with nothing to progress, there's a good chance a new quest or objective is waiting in your Owl Post rather than appearing directly on the map.
Unlock More Inventory Slots via Merlin Trials
Merlin Trials become available after speaking with Nora Treadwell following the Natty main quest. Completing eight of them quickly unlocks two additional tiers of inventory space. The first two are right next to Nora and six more are easy to find on the map nearby.
Delay Room of Requirement Until Level 15
The Room of Requirement requires a completed quest line with Deek the house elf plus enough Galleons to buy recipes and spellcrafts from Hogsmeade before it becomes genuinely useful. Rushing it early just leads to frustration. Come back once you're around level 15 and better funded.
6 tipsExploration
Use the Field Guide Thread to Navigate the Castle
Select a quest in the menu, then tap up on the d-pad in the main gameplay screen to summon a golden thread from your Field Guide. It traces the shortest path to your current objective, which is invaluable inside the castle where it's easy to get turned around.
Fast Travel is Free and Available From Anywhere
You can open the map and fast travel to any unlocked Floo Flame from any location on the map at no cost. Use the list on the left side of the map to navigate by area and specific flame rather than hunting for them on the map itself.
Zoom the Map Out to See Region Collectibles
Pressing L2 repeatedly on the world map zooms out to a top-down view of all regions and displays a breakdown of collectibles available in each one. This makes it easy to track what's left to find before moving on to a new area.
Switch Between Maps With the D-Pad
Rather than moving the cursor up to the map selector every time, use left and right on the d-pad to cycle between the Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and world maps. It's significantly faster once you know about it.
Change Time of Day Instantly Through the Map
Open the map and press down on the right thumbstick to advance the time of day on demand. Some quests and objectives are locked to specific times, so this saves waiting. You may need to press it twice to move from evening to daytime since evening and night can look similar.
Spam Revelio Constantly While Exploring
Tap left on the d-pad to cast Revelio as often as possible while moving through any area. It reveals nearby chests, interactable objects, and hidden puzzles that you would otherwise walk straight past. Field Guide Pages in particular are scattered everywhere and most require Revelio to surface.

Farm Disillusionment Chests for Early Galleons
Disillusionment Chests each contain 500 Galleons, more than any regular chest in the game. To open them, cast the Disillusionment Charm to turn invisible and sneak up before the eyeball on the chest spots you. As soon as you unlock the charm through Sebastian's quest line, head back to Hogsmeade where at least ten are hidden around the village, netting 5,000 Galleons in a single run.
Sell Unwanted Gear, Never Destroy It
When your inventory fills up, sell the overflow to any Hogsmeade shopkeeper rather than destroying it. Selling returns Galleons while destroying gives nothing. Gear items aren't unique, so you won't permanently lose access to anything by selling.
Collect Moonstone Early for the Room of Requirement
Moonstone is the resource used to conjure items in the Room of Requirement. Break any Moonstone crystals you encounter while exploring. When you first gain access to the room, vanish all the default furnishings inside, which yields over 100 Moonstone immediately.
2 tipsGear
Lower Rarity Gear Can Have Better Stats
Gear stats have a random component, so a green well-appointed piece can legitimately outperform a purple extraordinary piece. Always check the green and red arrows on the pickup popup to see whether a new item is an actual upgrade before equipping or discarding it.
Transmog Gear to Keep Your Preferred Look
Hover over any gear piece and press Square to open the appearance menu, where you can make it look like any piece of gear you've ever picked up. You can also set slots to invisible, so hats and facewear can provide their stats without appearing on your character.

Solve Arithmancy Doors Using Simple Addition
The creatures engraved around the door frame each represent a number from zero to nine, arranged in order. Each triangle on the door needs three numbers at its corners that add up to the value in the center. Two values are given as creatures or numbers and you solve for the missing third, then roll the question mark die on the wall to the correct creature.
5 tipsTalents
Talent Points Are Permanent, Spend Carefully
You earn one Talent point per level up and cannot refund them once spent. There aren't enough points to unlock everything, so think ahead before investing. Focus on core Talents first before branching into niche ones.
Take Spell Knowledge 1 and 2 as Your First Talents
These two Talents give you your second and third spell diamonds. You'll accumulate spells faster than a single diamond can hold them, and swapping spells out of the menu mid-adventure is tedious. Unlocking all three diamonds early also prepares you for swapping between them in combat.
Get Basic Cast Mastery for Faster Spell Recharge
Basic Cast Mastery causes your standard R2 basic shot to recharge your equipped spells faster while it's landing hits. This lets you cycle spells far more frequently in a fight and makes a noticeable difference in sustained combat encounters.
Unlock Ancient Magic Throw Expertise Early
This Talent lets you catch an enemy's weapon after stripping it with Expelliarmus and hurl it back for massive damage. Fast-track Expelliarmus by completing Professor Hecat's Defense Against the Dark Arts assignments as soon as possible. The combination is one of the highest-damage options available throughout the whole game.
Pick Up Swift and Protego Absorption Early
Swift adds an Apparition dash to your dodge by holding Circle, giving you much better repositioning in fights. Protego Absorption builds your Ancient Magic meter faster whenever you block an attack, which you'll be doing constantly anyway. Both pay off from the moment you unlock them.
4 tipsCombat
Block and Parry Every Attack With Protego
Watch for the orange halo above your character's head signaling an incoming attack and press Triangle to block. Holding Triangle after the block sends a Stupefy stunner at your target, immobilizing and debuffing them. Timing the block just before the halo disappears triggers a Perfect Parry with a stronger Stupefy. Red halos mean the attack can't be blocked at all, so dodge those instead.
Organize Spell Diamonds by Shield Color
Enemies carry red, yellow, and purple shields that can only be broken by a spell of the matching color. Set up each spell diamond so it always contains at least one of each color, and keep those spells in the same button position across all diamonds. That way you never have to think about which button breaks which shield in the middle of a fight.
Use Ancient Magic Throw to Break Enemy Shields
The Ancient Magic Throw (R1) deals strong damage and bypasses enemy shields entirely, making it useful in any fight where you need to strip a shield quickly without hunting for the right spell color. Use it freely whenever it's available rather than saving it.
Chain Four Basic Shots for Bonus Damage
The fourth consecutive basic shot in a row hits significantly harder than the first three. Instead of mashing R2 constantly, get into a rhythm of four shots followed by a Protego parry. This foundation naturally builds toward more advanced combo play as you unlock spells.
