Back Off When a Boss Staggers
When a boss hunches over after taking heavy damage, that window is a trap as much as an opportunity. Hitting it immediately tends to snap it back into its attack pattern. Use those seconds to heal or charge a nail art instead of going all in.
Slash Upwards Through Thin Floors
In areas with thin floors, you can hit enemies standing on the ceiling above you simply by jumping to ceiling height and swinging upward. It works in both directions, so be aware that enemies can sometimes do the same to you.
Dream Nail Enemies for a Large Soul Burst
Striking an enemy with the Dream Nail deals no damage but refills a significant chunk of your Soul gauge and briefly staggers smaller enemies. Use it on slower targets to safely top off your Soul before a big spell or boss encounter.
Open Boss Fights with a Nail Art and Spell Combo
A Great Slash followed immediately by Vengeful Spirit hits harder than two consecutive nail swings and connects faster against most boss openings. Against a staggered boss at full health, this combo is often the most efficient way to spend a damage window.
Use Lifeblood Cocoons to Prepare for Bosses
Lifeblood Cocoons found near boss rooms grant temporary bonus health masks that delay the need to heal. That means you can put the Soul you would have spent on Focus into damaging spells instead, increasing your effective damage output for the whole fight.
Pair Soul Catcher Charm with Vengeful Spirit Early
Vengeful Spirit deals three times the damage of a standard nail swing, enough to two-shot most enemies in the Forgotten Crossroads. Soul Catcher extends your Soul economy so you can cast it more freely without worrying about running dry when you need to heal.

Farm Geo Beyond Repeating Enemy Rooms
Grinding rooms for Geo is inefficient. Freeing Grubs, equipping the Gathering Swarm charm, and selling Relics at shops all produce Geo without requiring you to repeat the same encounters. Lean on these sources before looping areas.
Spend Rancid Eggs to Reclaim Your Lost Shade
Dying a second time before recovering your Shade destroys all the Geo it was holding. If you are in danger of losing it permanently, spend a Rancid Egg at Jiji in Dirtmouth to summon your Shade directly to the room and recover it safely.

Stand in Hot Springs to Refill Soul
Hot springs restore your Soul gauge over time, but you need to stand still inside the area for a brief moment before the effect activates. They are usually close to a bench, making them a convenient double stop before pushing further into an area.
Down-Slash Enemies and Spikes to Gain Lift
Striking downward onto enemies or spikes during a jump gives you a small bounce, letting you reach higher platforms or uncover secrets that would otherwise be out of reach. It also resets your double jump, extending how far you can travel vertically.
Strike Room Walls to Find Hidden Passages
Any room that feels oddly empty or suspiciously shaped likely has a breakable wall. The audio difference between hitting a solid wall and a hollow one is distinct and immediate. Hit the perimeter of any suspicious room and listen for the difference.
Hit Interactive Objects to Trigger Them
When something in the environment looks like it might respond to input, hit it. Platforms in Crystal Peak can be rotated by striking them, and many other environmental elements respond to your nail in ways the game never explicitly explains.
Walk Behind Shopkeepers to Access Lore
When a shopkeeper still has items in stock, moving to their right side or behind them switches the interaction prompt from Shop to Listen. Many shopkeepers have dialogue that never surfaces if you always approach from the front.

Your Cracked Soul Gauge Limits Total Soul
The visual crack on your Soul gauge after death is not decorative. While it is active, your maximum Soul capacity is reduced to two thirds of normal, limiting how many spells you can cast before you must recover your Shade. Retrieve it as soon as possible.

Upgrade Your Nail Before Leaving Fungal Wastes
Defeating the Fungal Wastes boss and moving directly into the next area without upgrading your nail is one of the most common traps for new players. The difficulty jumps sharply. Turn back and visit the Nailsmith in the City of Tears before proceeding.
Prioritize the Nailsmith in City of Tears
The Nailsmith is one of the highest-impact upgrades in the early game. Getting to the City of Tears and upgrading your nail should be a primary goal as soon as the path opens. A stronger nail changes the pace and feel of every fight that follows.
Sit on Every Bench You Find
There is no benefit to skipping a bench. Sitting down refills your health, updates your map, and lets you swap charms. Any one of those things alone is worth the two seconds it takes.
