Always Wear Spectacles Before Reading Books
Equipping spectacles gives Henry a hidden +5 bonus to his Scholarship skill, which directly increases how fast he reads. This lets you finish skill books faster and unlock their benefits earlier. A free pair can be found just east of Trosquitz, under a tree near the start of the game.
Walk While Over Encumbered to Power-Level Strength
Loading Henry past his carry limit and then walking long distances on foot rapidly levels both Strength and Vitality. Every step under heavy load generates hidden XP, and the more weight you carry the faster those stats grow. This is one of the most efficient early ways to build core attributes without fighting anyone.
Set Up Three Dedicated Gear Loadouts
Save three equipment presets: one heavy armor melee build for combat, one stealth build for sneaking and lockpicking, and one merchant build optimized for Speech and trading. With presets saved you can swap your entire playstyle in a single click instead of digging through menus each time the situation changes.
Talk to Every NPC for Free Speech XP
Almost every conversation gives Henry a small Speech skill boost, and these gains compound significantly over a full playthrough. Higher Speech unlocks extra dialogue options for haggling, intimidating, and charming through quests. Make it a habit to speak to every trader, guard, and villager you pass through a town.

Wear Smithing Attire Every Time You Forge
The blacksmith's apron and leather gloves each provide a hidden Craftsmanship bonus (+3 and +2 respectively) that stacks to +5 when worn together. This makes hitting gold-quality results significantly easier and increases the money earned from smithing jobs. Both items are found in a small room beside the forge in Tarov during the Wedding Crashers quest.
Rush Alchemy Level 16 to Unlock Henry's Fox
Reaching Alchemy level 16 unlocks the Secret of Secrets perk, which lets you brew Henry's Fox. This potion grants a 50% XP boost to every skill for 48 in-game hours, plus bonuses to Speech and reading speed. Since it cannot be purchased and must be crafted, investing in Alchemy early pays dividends across the entire playthrough.
2 tipsCombat
Train Archery at the Trosky Castle Contest
The archery range at the front of Trosky Castle lets you fire freely without enemies closing in on you, making it far more effective for leveling Marksmanship than trying to use a bow in real combat. Each session also grants bonus XP toward Strength, Agility, and Warfare. Once your accuracy is solid the contest becomes a repeatable source of Groschen on top of the skill gains.
Coat Weapons and Arrows With Bane Poison
Bane Poison activates on any hit that deals health damage through armor, so it works on swords, axes, maces, hammers, and arrows alike. Once triggered it drains the enemy's health over time, effectively doubling your damage output per strike. High-quality crafted Bane Poison can end a fight before it escalates, and it prevents enemies from fleeing.

Dry Food at Drying Racks for Infinite Shelf Life
Fresh meat and produce spoil within a day or two, but drying them at a drying rack converts them into preserved rations that never rot. Every item you dry also grants Survival XP, making drying a risk-free way to level the skill. Note that drying does not fix already-spoiled food, so process items while they are still fresh.
Equip Combat Loadout Before Every Fast Travel
Fast travel is not a guaranteed safe teleport. Random events including ambushes can trigger during transit, and you cannot change equipment once a fight starts. Always switch to your combat loadout before hitting fast travel so Henry is prepared if he gets jumped on the road.
