Manage Ki or Get Staggered and Punished
Running out of Ki puts you into a stagger state, leaving you vulnerable to grapple attacks or ground stomps that deal enormous damage. Keep your Ki bar above zero in every fight.
Use Ki Pulse to Instantly Recover Stamina
Press R1 just as your Ki bar is about to fully drain to trigger a Ki Pulse, recovering the stamina you just spent. Ki Pulses also clear the Yokai pollution auras left by demons, which otherwise slow your Ki regeneration significantly.
Learn Flux to Restore Ki on Stance Swaps
Each weapon tree includes a Flux skill that restores additional Ki whenever you change stances during a Ki Pulse. Combining Flux with the Flash Attack skill allows you to chain weapon swaps mid-combo and potentially sustain attacks indefinitely.
Drain Enemy Ki to Land Powerful Finishers
Attacks like kicks deplete enemy Ki faster than standard strikes. Once an enemy's Ki hits zero, press Triangle to perform a learned Grapple for massive damage, or knock them down and use the stomp attack for a similar payoff without the Grapple skill.
Apply Two Elements to Trigger the Discord Debuff
Hitting an enemy with two different elements activates Discord, which prevents them from regenerating Ki and causes them to take significantly more damage from all attacks. Activate it on tough enemies and bosses whenever possible.
Know What Each Element Does Before Applying It
Fire applies quick damage over time, Water lowers physical defense, Wind reduces enemy attack damage and break power, Lightning slows movement and attack speed, and Earth increases all Ki costs. Match your element choice to the situation.
Stack Poison on Top of an Active Discord Debuff
Poison and Paralysis are status effects rather than elements, so they cannot trigger Discord on their own. Once Discord is active via two elements, applying Poison adds a long-duration damage-over-time effect on top, since Poison lasts longer and deals more damage per tick than Fire.

Press Options on Any Menu for Stat Tooltips
Pressing the Options button on any stat screen or item menu opens a detailed tooltip explaining exactly what that stat does. Use this constantly when building your character rather than guessing what each point is worth.
Match Your Stats to Your Armor's Requirements
Heavy armor lists minimum Stamina and Strength values at the bottom of its description. Meeting those thresholds activates all the special effects on the piece. Falling short lets you wear the armor but forfeits every bonus effect.
Stay in B-Class Agility for Best Mobility
Nioh's agility system has four tiers based on equipment load percentage. B-class, between 30 and 70 percent, gives a smooth dash and a far roll. C-class cuts those down noticeably, and D-class (over 100 percent) removes your ability to roll entirely.
Buy the Book of Reincarnation Early for Cheap Respec
The Blacksmith's item shop sells the Book of Reincarnation, which fully resets your stat allocation. The first purchase costs only 10,000 gold, but the price increases steeply with each subsequent buy. Grab it early while it is still affordable.
Level Patronage With Tome for Discounts and Unlocks
Every purchase, sale, or crafting action at the Blacksmith increases your Patronage level with Tome. Spending Patronage points unlocks forging cost discounts, higher sell prices, additional special stock, and the Barber menu for character customization.

Farm Revenants Instead of Regular Monsters
Standard monster drops and static pickups are unreliable gear sources. Player Revenants drop the gear they had equipped when they died, making them far more consistent for high-rarity weapons and armor. Set aside 15 minutes every five levels to farm a cluster of them near a shrine.
Use Side Missions for Revenant Farming
Revenants in side missions are easier to fight than those in main missions and don't require clearing the whole level to reach them. Side missions are the most efficient place to run targeted gear farming sessions.
Use Himorogi Fragments to Exit After Farming
A Himorogi Fragment lets you leave a mission immediately and keep all loot without finishing the objective. A Himorogi Branch works the same way and can be purchased or found more reliably. Use one after a Revenant farming session rather than retreading the whole map to the exit.

Collect Kodamas for Blessings and Bonus Elixirs
Each region has hidden Kodama spirits that unlock an equippable area blessing (increased Amrita, drop rates, or healing item availability) when collected. Fully clearing a region also adds up to five bonus Elixirs to your healing allotment for every mission there.
Equip a Kodama Sense Trinket to Spot Them
Trinkets and certain Guardian Spirits with the Kodama Sense stat show a green dot on the minimap whenever a Kodama is nearby. Keep a low-level trinket with this perk just for dedicated Kodama hunt runs.

Forge Weapons Using Your Best Available Materials
When forging weapons at the Blacksmith, the materials you select directly affect the chance of getting a higher rarity result. Substituting higher-quality lacquer and metals raises the purple rarity percentage visibly in the crafting preview before you commit.
Soul Match Favorite Weapons to Keep Them Viable
Soul Match lets you sacrifice a higher-level item to raise a beloved weapon or armor piece to that item's level, at the cost of resetting its familiarity bonus. Use it to keep set-piece weapons competitive rather than discarding them for random drops with worse stats.
Refashion Gear to Change Looks Without Touching Stats
The Refashion option at the Blacksmith lets you apply the appearance of any weapon or armor you have previously found onto your current equipment for a small gold cost. Stats are completely unchanged.
Reforge Individual Stat Slots on Strong Gear
If a piece of gear has excellent base stats but one undesirable roll, Reforge lets you re-roll that specific slot repeatedly until you get something useful. The locked stat shown with a symbol cannot be changed, but the others can be reforged indefinitely as long as you have fragments and gold.
