The Ultimate Tank
ConfessorA shield-poke tank that turns you into an immovable wall. Stack guard boost, damage negation, and stamina sustain so a maxed greatshield blocks nearly everything, then poke from behind it with the Antspur Rapier to apply Scarlet Rot, Bleed, and Poison at once. Scholar's Shield plus the Greatshield Talisman drop block stamina cost to near zero, so you out-tank entire boss combos.
Damage
Triple-status DoT: Scarlet Rot + Bleed + Poison every poke. Damage over time, not burst.
Survivability
70–100% elemental negation, near-100% physical. Near-infinite block stamina. Basically a wall.
Boss
Out-tanks Malenia and Consort Radahn by blocking entire combos and poking back.

Confessor
Confessor is a faith-and-melee hybrid starting class, essentially a battle-priest. Its balanced stat spread, weighted toward Faith with workable Strength and Dexterity, opens up both melee weapons and support incantations early, giving a clean foundation for hitting the mix of requirements this build needs.
The core damage tool. A thrusting sword with natural Scarlet Rot buildup that you poke with from behind the shield. Infuse it to stack a second and third status so every poke applies Rot, Bleed, and Poison together.
Ash of War
- ▸Cragblade— Late-game pick. Heavy affinity that adds a damage buff and heavy stance/poise pressure. Pair with the Fingerprint Stone Shield's No Skill so you can trigger it while blocking.
- ▸Bloody Slash— Early-game alternative. Grants Blood Loss affinity to add Bleed before you have Cragblade and the No Skill shield online.
- ▸Poisonous Mist (option)— Swapping to a Poison-based Ash of War lets the rapier apply Poison alongside its natural Rot and a Bleed affinity for the full triple-status stack.
How to Obtain
The best-in-class wall. Highest physical guard boost of any standard greatshield, so combined with Scholar's Shield and the Greatshield Talisman it reduces block stamina drain to almost nothing. Infuse it with No Skill so holding L1 still triggers the rapier's Cragblade.
Ash of War
- ▸Ash of War: No Skill— Removes the shield's own skill so the L2 input fires your equipped weapon's Cragblade instead, letting you keep the block up while buffing the rapier.
How to Obtain
Endgame heavy armor with the highest poise in the game and excellent physical negation, the final 'Phase 3' look. Extremely high resistance keeps chip damage and status off you while you stand and block.
How to Obtain
Core defensive talisman. Boosts guarding ability so your shield's Guard Boost climbs even higher, a key piece of the near-zero stamina drain combo.

Combat Strategy
- ▸Drink the Flask of Wondrous Physick with stamina-recovery tears (Greenburst/Greenspill tiers).
- ▸Cast Blessing's Boon and Golden Vow with the Golden Order Seal, then add a situational shield like Barrier of Gold if the fight is elemental.
- ▸Switch to the Demi-Human Queen's Staff and cast Scholar's Shield onto your greatshield.
- ▸Two-hand the Antspur Rapier and apply Cragblade, then go back to shield and weapon.
- ▸Hold L1 to keep the block up at all times.
- ▸Poke with R1 from behind the shield to stack Scarlet Rot, Bleed, and Poison.
- ▸When stamina dips, stop poking briefly and let it regenerate, but keep the shield raised if it is safe.
- ▸Let Blessing's Boon's regen soak the minor chip damage that leaks through the block.
- ▸Lean on stamina-recovery talismans and physick tears so the guard never breaks.
- ▸If stamina ever hits zero your guard shatters, so disengage and recover before that happens.
- ▸Walk or stand still when poking. Running R1 drops your guard, which is how tanks die here.
- ▸Use Bleed for most bosses, but swap the rapier to a Frost/Cold affinity for Bleed-immune enemies like Radagon.
- ▸Swap in Lord's Divine Fortification for holy fights and Barrier of Gold for magic fights to push negation higher.
- ▸Keep the Serpent-Hunter on hand specifically for the Rykard fight.
