SurvivalistA universal perk foundation that stacks radiation-based healing, enemy-drop consumables, and Turbo slow-motion into a triple survival loop. The build out-heals Very Hard and Hardcore damage through any weapon type once Rad Child, Chemist, and Implant GRX are assembled.
Damage
Weapon-agnostic. Any combat style works. Turbo provides up to 40 seconds of daily slow-motion DPS.
Survivability
8 HP/sec at 800 rads + Blood Sausage + Thin Red Paste. Out-heals Very Hard/Hardcore damage. Survives Dead Money Cloud.
Boss
+6 DT (Toughness x2), 8 HP/sec regen, 40s Turbo supply. No boss requires kiting on Very Hard.
Survivalist
A gear-agnostic archetype built entirely on perk selection rather than specific weapons or armor. The Survivalist foundation uses Rad Child, Chemist, and Implant GRX to create passive healing and daily slow-motion windows that function independently of combat style.
The best revolver in the game. Extremely high base damage for a one-handed weapon with a low AP cost in VATS. The ammo (.45-70 Gov't) is scarce from vendors, so Jury Rigging keeps it at peak condition using any other revolver.
How to Obtain
The perk foundation works with any weapon type. The picks below are community top-tier options for each combat style. Choose whichever matches your preferred playstyle — all benefit equally from Implant GRX slow-motion and the Radchild healing loop.
Highest combined DT in the game at 36. Stacks with Toughness's +6 DT for the best overall damage reduction available. Heavy and requires frequent repair, but Jury Rigging makes that trivial using any other power armor.
How to Obtain
Combat Strategy
- ▸Reach 800 rads before engaging difficult content. Use irradiated water, rad zones, or ghoul attacks to climb the radiation threshold.
- ▸Keep Rad-X in your inventory at all times. Pop one immediately if your radiation total approaches 950 to avoid the 1,000-rad death threshold.
- ▸Implant GRX doses refresh every 24 in-game hours. Check your Aid inventory before key fights to confirm the daily allotment is full.
- ▸Loot every enemy corpse for Blood Sausage and Thin Red Paste from Them's Good Eatin'. Each has a 50% drop chance, so extended fights generate substantial healing reserves.
- ▸Use Blood Sausage and Thin Red Paste in the open field to supplement Radchild's passive regen. The combined throughput out-heals virtually all standard enemy damage on Very Hard.
- ▸In Dead Money, this healing stack survives the lethal Cloud environmental hazard that normally kills characters in seconds.
- ▸Activate Implant GRX doses when facing tough enemies or boss encounters. Each dose slows perceived time, giving a significant advantage in targeting and positioning.
- ▸With Chemist and Day Tripper active, each dose lasts approximately 4 seconds instead of the base 2-3. Rank 2 provides 10 doses per day for roughly 40 seconds of total slow-motion.
- ▸Stack multiple doses in rapid succession for continuous slow-motion against especially dangerous encounters. Non-addictive doses carry no withdrawal penalties.
- ▸Sell surplus Blood Sausages and Thin Red Paste for 125 and 175 caps respectively. Combined with Jury Rigging resale loops, this generates enough income to afford any weapon in the game.
- ▸Use Jury Rigging to repair high-value weapons with cheap common alternatives. A Ranger Sequoia can be repaired using a standard .357 Magnum to preserve maximum condition.
- ▸Avoid Logan's Loophole if you plan to exceed Level 30. Take it only if committing to a level-capped run in exchange for doubled chem duration.
- ▸Select Skilled at character creation, then reselect it during the Goodsprings re-spec to gain +10 to all skills without doubling the XP penalty.
