Ember Knights builds form during a run out of three moving parts: your weapon, your two skills, and the relics you collect along the way. Each weapon has a distinct attack pattern and a special attack, and the skills you bring determine your mobility and burst, so those two choices set the shape of the run before the first relic appears. Relics are where the run gets broken. Many of them modify a specific damage type, status effect, or skill, and picking up several that point in the same direction produces effects far larger than the sum of the individual bonuses. That makes early relic choices important, because they signal which direction the rest of the run should commit to. Ember upgrades provide permanent progression between runs, unlocking new weapons, skills, and relic pool entries. Because the game is built around four player co-op, some relics and weapons that look modest in solo play scale much better when several players are stacking status effects on the same target.
