About Hollow Knight: Silksong Builds

Silksong replaces the charm system from Hollow Knight with crests and tools, which changes how builds are put together. A crest sets your base moveset and determines how many tool slots you have and what kinds of tools fit into them, so choosing a crest is the first and most consequential build decision. Tools then fill those slots and cover attack options, traps, healing support, and utility, and unlike charms many of them consume resources on use, which introduces an economy that has to be managed during a fight. Silk is the resource shared between healing and Silk Skills, so the same tension that shaped Hollow Knight builds applies here, with Hornet's bindings costing silk that could otherwise be spent on damage. Needle upgrades raise base damage, and crafting materials gathered from enemies feed tool replenishment. Because crests can be swapped at benches, most players end up maintaining a couple of complete crest and tool combinations for exploration versus boss encounters rather than one universal setup.
