Metro Exodus builds are about weapon configuration and resource management rather than character stats. There is no skill tree and no level, so your loadout is your build. Weapons are modular down to the barrel, magazine, sight, and stock, and parts can be swapped at a workbench or in the field from your backpack, which means one weapon can be reconfigured between a quiet scoped setup and a loud close-range one depending on the mission. Crafting consumes two resources gathered from the world, one for ammunition and consumables and one for filters and medkits, and that scarcity is the actual constraint on how you play. Weapon condition degrades and reduces performance until cleaned, so maintenance is part of the loadout decision. The game rewards stealth heavily, since ammunition spent on avoidable fights is ammunition unavailable later.
