Middle-earth: Shadow of War builds combine a skill tree with gear and the Nemesis system. Skills are unlocked with points and then further specialized by upgrades that modify how the skill behaves, and those upgrade choices matter more than the base skills, since they determine whether an ability is a damage tool, a stealth tool, or a way to build up your hit streak. Gear pieces carry stats plus set bonuses and can hold gems that boost damage, health, or resource generation, and gear also comes with challenges that unlock an additional epic effect once completed. The Nemesis system is effectively part of your build in the late game, because recruited orc captains bring their own strengths and immunities into fights alongside you. Since captains have specific weaknesses and fears, a loadout that covers several damage and status types deals with the variety better than one built entirely around a single approach. Curses and brands scale with your progression through the Bright Lord skill line.
