About Nioh 2 Builds

Nioh 2 keeps the stance and Ki systems from the first game and adds Yokai Shift, which comes in Brute, Feral, and Phantom forms. The form you pick changes your transformed moveset and also affects which Soul Cores you can use most effectively, so it is one of the earliest real build decisions. Soul Cores are dropped by yokai and grant an ability plus passive stats, and they slot into your Guardian Spirit, which makes them a large part of a build's damage and utility. Stats scale weapon types as before, and Ninjutsu and Onmyo remain separate trees worth investing in for elemental debuffs and buffs. Burst Counters are the defensive core of the game and vary by form, which again ties back to your Yokai Shift choice. Gear rolls with random effects and set bonuses, and the endgame revolves around soul matching, tempering, and set completion to reach specific breakpoints, particularly on the higher difficulties where enemy scaling makes uncapped resistances and damage bonuses matter.
